Louis "Blaine" Friend, 66, died January 3, 2012 in Eugene, OR after a lengthy illness. Blaine was born in Klamath Falls, OR September 9, 1945 to Clarence and Clausie Lowry Friend. He graduated from Klamath Union High School, in 1964, after he completed basic training with the Army National Guard. He then joined the United States Coast Guard and remained in the military until his medical retirement in 1993. He then settled in Sutherlin, OR where he lived at the time of his death.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to ride motorcycles. He faithfully attended The Father's House church where he made lasting friendships with several "riding" buddies. He was very outspoken politically and enjoyed reading and listening to talk radio.
He is survived by his wife, Jeri of Sutherlin, his sons, Josh Friend of Raleigh NC, Rob Owens of Naples, Italy, sister Sharon Wesley of Puyallup, WA, 6 grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1980 and his mother December 20, 2011.
Memorial services, with full military honors, will be held January 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at The Father's House in Sutherlin, OR. Private inurnment will be held at the Roseburg National Cemetery.
