He loved a good joke, his coffee even stale, his evening shot of whiskey with lots of ice, and would eat anything served to him graciously. He loved his family unconditionally, but he especially loved all the 'girls' in his life and flirted with every female he met.

He made a few mistakes in life. He broke a big bottle of cheap whiskey in his son’s new car. He jumped a ditch while his horse didn't. He paid for the property damage when he taught his daughters to drive, his boys were a bit easier to teach.

He raised his kids to be fearless and hard working. Some of his favorite sayings were "can't never did anything" and "the best worker in the world can't do a good job if he isn't there". He wanted his kids to be self sufficient so he taught them the skills he had learned. Boy or girl it didn't matter, he let them know they were capable and encouraged them to try.

He dodged a torpedo in the South Pacific and later saw action in the Philippines while serving on the USS Princeton. He was proud of his service and was quite handsome in his uniform. He also spent 30 years working as a lathe operator at Nordic Veneer.

He was married to the love of his life for 64 short years. They loved to bowl and traveled often for tournaments. They enjoyed Cruises and took several to Alaska, and Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife Donna; brother, Bill Luttrell of Bullhead City, AZ; sons, Mike (Connie), Rick (Cindy), Mark (Kim) of Roseburg, David (Paula) of Tillamook; daughters, Kim (Nielsen) of Mount Vernon, WA, and Jaki (Brian) of Rochester, WA; grandkids, Heather (Pacini), Brian, Julia, Kaila, Kyle, Kraig, Laney, Courtney, Hayden, Ethan and Grace; and great-grandkids, Austyn, Bryce, Tehgan and Ryker.

He will be honored with a military ceremony at the VA Cemetery on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the family home.
