Don was born June 12, 1934, to parents Melvin and Ethel Russell, the third of their six children. He was born and raised in Douglas County, Oregon. He retired from Roseburg Lumber in 1986, where he had worked for 30 years. After retirement Don and his wife ran a daycare from their home for many years. Family describes Don as loving, respectable, hard-working, dedicated to his responsibilities and selfless. His daughters, Laurie and Beth, describe his unending devotion and care as a single dad. On September 22, 1984, he married Kathleen Marshall combining their families.
Don is survived by his wife, Kathleen Russell; daughter, Laurie Casteel and her husband Steve, and their children, Bradley and Kyle; daughter, Beth Dickson and her husband Dale, and their children, Chelsea, Amanda, Devan and Brody; son, Scott Marshall and his wife Cindy, and children, Kimberly and Kami; daughter, Dawn Jarvis and her children, Jennifer, Brittany and Robby; grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley, Cody and their father, Robert Long, from daughter Julie Marshall, who preceded him in death; sisters, Mildred Ohlemacher and DoraMae Skillingstad; and brother, Leroy Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Odetta Mills; brother, Walter Russell; son-in-law, Robert Jarvis; and daughter, Julie Marshall.
All are welcome to attend a celebration of Don’s life with family and friends, on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Liberty Christian Fellowship, 3380 NE Diamond Lake Blvd., Roseburg, OR. He is dearly missed.
